Day 9: Jehovah Rapha
Verse: Exodus 15:26 NKJV
“And said, ‘If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is
right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will
put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am
the Lord who heals you.’”
Devotional: Jehovah Rapha means “The Lord who heals.” This name is revealed in Exodus 15 after the Israelites had just been delivered from Egypt. They were finally free, but a few days into the wilderness, they came to water they couldn’t drink. It was bitter. Instead of celebrating what God had just done for them, they began to complain. That is when God showed Moses a tree to throw into the water, and the water was made sweet. Right there, God revealed Himself as Jehovah Rapha. This is important because it shows us something about God’s nature. He doesn’t only lead us out of bondage. He also heals what we have been through. Healing is something we all need, and it looks different for each person. Sometimes it’s physical, sometimes it is emotional. At other times it’s something deeper that no one else sees.
Pain has a way of staying with us if it’s not dealt with. Past wounds, disappointment, loss, or even our own mistakes can leave marks that affect how we think, how we respond, and how we trust. Jehovah Rapha reminds us that God does not ignore those places. Psalm 103:2–3 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul… who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.” God’s healing touches both sin and suffering. He cares about the whole person.
We see this clearly in the life of Jesus. He healed physical sickness, but He also restored people completely. In Mark 5, the woman with the issue of blood was healed physically, but Jesus also spoke to her identity and called her daughter. In John 5, He healed a man who had been sick for years and then addressed the deeper condition of his life. Healing with God is never surface level. It is complete. That doesn’t mean it always happens instantly or the way we expect. There are times when healing is a process. There are moments when we have to trust God even when we don’t understand the timing or the way He heals. But Jehovah Rapha assures us. God isn’t indifferent to our pain. He sees it and He cares about it. He is able to heal. Sometimes we try to manage our own healing.
We push things down, ignore them, or try to move on without really dealing with what is underneath. But real healing happens when we bring those places to God and allow Him to work in ways only He can. Today is an invitation to be honest with God. He already knows what you are carrying. You don’t have to hide it or clean it up first. He is Jehovah Rapha. He can heal what hurts.
Prayer: God, You are Jehovah Rapha, the One who heals. You see every area of my life, including the places that are hurting. I bring those areas to You today. The physical needs, the emotional weight, and the things I have carried for too long. I don’t want to hold onto what You are ready to heal. Help me to trust You with the process. Even when I don’t understand the timing, remind me that You are still working. Thank You for caring about every part of my life. You are never distant from my pain, and You are able to heal every area of my life. I put my trust in You as my Healer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
