Following Jesus was never promised to be convenient.

In Acts 21, Paul knows exactly what obedience could cost him. He is warned that chains and suffering are waiting for him in Jerusalem, yet his response is simple: “I am ready.”

Marriage costs something. Parenting costs something. Calling costs something. And following Jesus requires us to surrender our comfort, preferences, plans, and sometimes even the things we desperately want to hold onto.

But Jesus paid the ultimate price at the cross. Our obedience isn’t payment for His love, it’s our response to it.

The question isn’t simply, “Do I know what following Jesus costs?” The question is, “Am I willing to obey Him when the cost becomes real?”
