“I THIRST” | The Fifth Saying of Jesus on the Cross
Last words are always significant and revealing, and nowhere is that more true than at the cross.
In this message, we explore one of the most simple yet powerful statements Jesus made during His crucifixion: “I thirst.” (John 19:28–30)
At first glance, it’s just two words. No parable. No long teaching.
But within this short statement, we see both the full humanity of Jesus and the depth of His divine mission. After enduring unimaginable suffering, trials, beatings, and crucifixion, Jesus speaks from a place of deep physical thirst. Yet this moment is far more than physical…
It’s spiritual.
It’s prophetic.
It’s personal.
The same Jesus who once said, “Come to Me and drink”… now says, “I thirst.”
